We're at week 35!

I usually just write blogs in my myspace and on facebook, but I thought I would start one here as well. That way we'll have something to show to Hailey when she is older. My name is Nadine and I am married to Josh. We are expecting our first baby, a girl named Hailey. We are scheduling a C-section for July 20th because Hailey has been diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. We got the news on our 19 week ultrasound appointment. HLHS means that she will be born with half a heart and she will need open heart surgery within the first few days of life. We plan on having the surgery done at a top hospital, Doernbecher Children's hospital in Portland, OR. We are very nervous about the whole situation but we are staying positive that our little girl is going to be a fighter and she will be home with us in no time at all! I will update more as time goes on, not sure if the hospital has Internet access or not, but I guess I will find out!

  1. I'm glad you found our blog and thanks for following along. Yes, we've been quite lucky with our little heart baby...it's been tough at times but overall, life feels pretty "normal" for our family. She is an absolute joy and all of the worry, uncertainty and tears have been well worth it by having Maddie in our lives.

I saw you're from Olympia? We go to Seattle Children's for our daughter's appointments, surgeries, etc. We've been very happy with Seattle and thier heart center has really come a long way. Everyone we've worked with has been so impressive and we really do attribute much of Maddie's success to their team.

Best of luck to you and your sweet little Hailey. If you ever have any questions or anything, just let me know. I love chatting with other heart mom's and the support you can receive from someone going through the same situation is unmeasurable. We'll be keeping Hailey and your family in our prayers- take care!

  2. Yes we're from Olympia but we just moved here recently from Vancouver so we have lots of friends and family a lot closer to OHSU. We would rather have her be closer to everyone than make them drive 3 hours to see us. Thank you so much for keeping us in your prayers! :)
